''The Crossing'' Discussion Post

The filmmakers use cinematic language to manipulate viewers reactions to the film by cutting certain scenes, using different shot angles, cinematic invisibility, and point of viewWith these things the filmmakers were able to connect them to one another making the ''perfect scene''. By using these film techniques, it allows each viewer to interpret what is going on their reaction to itFor example, toward the end of the short film there is cinematic invisibilityThis technique was used when the actor was grabbed from behind then it went to a black screen. Right after it shows a clip with a closeup of one of the lights. This was a fast-moving transition between the two shots. Another example is the use of shot angles, as there was many in this filmWhen the actor was running in the big empty space it as a close-up low angle shot of her feet then cuts to a far and distant wide shot of her full body runningAnother example is when she was on the phone crying, the filmmakers decided to use a close of her face showing her full emotion of sadness. Then cuts to her full body showing the position of which she standsAfter that it is a side profile angle of the hand in which she was holding the phone, but at the same times focuses on the closing darkness that creeps up on her in a broken mannerThis film also had different point of viewsMajority of the short film was based of the actors' point of view, such as what she sees, hears, says, and how she acts. They also had the clip where she was being dragged by something around the corner but there was 2 people looking at her as they saw nothing giving her a concerned look. This shows how the only actor was seeing this creature while other people see her as ''crazy''.
